Congratulations to Brhyeton Hall and Hollis Hoang on completing their MSc Degrees in Physics. Brhyeton's research focused on quantum error correction and Hollis studied modeling of spin qubits in silicon.

Two more Quanics Lab students successfully defended their MSc research thesis. 

Congratulations to Canaan Yung and Scott Vila on completing their MSc Degrees in Computer Science. Canaan's research focused on quantum algorithms for data science and Scott explored quantum error correction methods for correlated and biased noise.

A/Prof. Usman has been appointed as an Adjunct Associate Professor (Research) position at the School of Physics, Monash University. 

"This is a great honour to be associate with the excellent academic community and I will be looking forward to working with the faculty on advancing quantum education and research programs.", says Dr Usman.

Great to see that our review article has been the Top Cited Article of the year 2021-22. As per Google Scholar, it has already accumulated 100 citations in just one year!

Dr Usman will be a panelist, speaking at Quantum Australia, which is Australia's premier quantum industry event presented by Sydney Quantum Academy in 2023.

Dr Usman will be giving a Guest Lecture at the Australian Institute of Machine Learning (The University of Adelaide) on August 12 at 11 AM. The topic of the lecture is "Applications at the intersection of machine learning and quantum computing".

Dr Usman joined Working Group 14 Committee at the Standards Australia to help define standards for quantum technologies. In this role, Dr Usman will also be closely working with the international communities at ISO, IEC, etc to represent Australia in standardisation of quantum technologies. 

Dr Usman will be presenting at the Chief of Army Symposium event at Adelaide Convention Center on August 10-11, 2022. The presentation will be part of the Australian Army Quantum Technology Challenge (QTC22) which presents our team's quantum solution for the challenge problem: "Identification and Mitigation of Threats in Images and Signals".

Great news! Quanics Lab MSc research student Maxwell West just received the news of his paper being accepted in Nanoscale journal as communications. Well done Maxwell!

Dr Usman will be serving on the Executive Editorial Board of IOP Nano Futures journal. 

Nano Futures mission is to reflect the diverse and multidisciplinary field of nanoscience and nanotechnology that now brings together researchers from across physics, chemistry, biomedicine, materials science, engineering, and industry.

Dr Usman is presenting an invited talk at the 2021 International Conference on Solid State Devices and Materials (SSDM). In this talk, our recent work on bismide nanowires for greener photonic technologies will be discussed.

Dr Usman is one of the finalists in the Rising Stars in Computational Materials Science global competition.

Great News! Our project proposal titled "Quantum Computer Device simulations" won 750 KSUs CPU time on Australia's HPC National Computing Infrastructure in a nationwide competition. This will allow us to run computationally intensive simulations on two state-of-the-art supercomputers: Magnus and Gadi.

Dr Usman's research on theoretical simulations of silicon qubit devices and quantum computer architectures awarded 2019 Dean's Award for Excellence in Research (Early Career) in the Faculty of Science at the University of Melbourne. Dr Usman's MSc student (co-supervised with Prof. Hollenberg) successfully presented completion talk of his MSc thesis. He worked on the investigation of electronic signature of symmetry breaking in MgPc dimers adsorbed on Ag surfaces by formulating a theoretical framework based on DFT electronic structure calculations and STM/STS simulations. Congratulations to Spiro Gicev!
